Ungu are an Indonesian pop-rock band originating from Jakarta in Indonesia. They have been active from 1996 to present and only have one original member left. The band consists of Pasha (vocals, guitar), Enda and Onci, (guitar), Makki (bass, original member), Gatz (keyboard) and Rowman (drums).
They’re best known for their singles “Demi Waktu”, “Tercipta Untukku”, “Andai Ku Tahu”, Kekasih Gelakpu. Ungu gaine mainstream popularity in Malaysia around 2006 with the release of “Demi Waktu”, followed by their third album titled Melayang.
In their formation in 1996, the orginal members consisted of guitarist Ekky, drummer Pasha van derr Krabb, bassist Makki and vocalist Michael. Pasha left in 1997 and was replaced with current drummer Rowman.
In the year 2000, Ungu focused on their production of their debut album. In July 2002, Ungu released their first, full-length album entitled Laguku. The album was considered a success, however the album only received platinum award two years after the original release date.

In 2005, Ungu successfully record brand new material for their new album. They released their next album in December 2005 which was entitled Malayang. It was initially only released in Indonesia. The band was launched into the spotlight with their hit single "Demi Waktu". This song received a heap of airplay in Indonesia and Malaysia which caused 4 record labels to earn the Ungu's copyright to distribute the album in Malaysia. Suria Records won the copyright. The album itself received very good reviews with both Indonesian and Malaysian critics.
To celebrate Ramadhan in 2006, Ungu released a mini album called SurgaMu. In the same year, they were nominated for Most Favourite Band Duo in the MTV Asia 2006 Awards, Best video director and Video of the Year for "Demi Waktu".
Ungu released a compilation album in 2012 named Timeless. The album included other artists who merged with them like Cinta Laura, Agnes Monica, SM*SH, T.R.I.A.D, Rossa, Slank, Ello, Armarda and an array of other artists. The album was only sold at KFC stores in Indonesia.
